Big Five is a new market offering that enables schools to create a centralized database for inputting and tracking student behavior (office discipline referrals) across the school. The Big Five application enables teachers to rapidly input and track student behavior from any device (mobile, web-based, tablet, etc.). The application disaggregates data and allows administrators to answer 5 key questions about student behavior such as where do problem behaviors occur (location), what time of day are they occurring (morning, mid-day, or afternoon), by which students, how often do problem behaviors occur (per day, month, and year), and type of problems (fighting, disrespect, defiance, etc.).
Data collection is an essential component in ESSA and the Big Five application provides a valuable tool for teachers, administrators, related service providers, and other school-based personnel to quickly, easily, and accurately record student behaviors to make decisions about intervention and program effectiveness in compliance with ESSA. Importantly, the Big Five app allows for the collection of demographic data to monitor and track rates of disproportionality in discipline referrals.
